“Good Samaritan is … flooded with a lot of smiles.”

Akari Muguruma came from Japan to study English and experience different cultures. As a Good Samaritan volunteer, Akari was delighted to be given the chance to share ancient Japanese traditions with the children and adults at Good Sam. In the classrooms, Akari has taught many students about Tanabata, a traditional festival, and Origami, the art of paperfolding. Because Good Samaritan respects diversity, Akari’s Japanese cultural traditions were welcomed and honored by all. “Good Samaritan is a great association; they’re flooded with a lot of smiles, surrounded by wonderful staffs and clients. I spend so nice days here.”

Akari’s volunteer work at Good Sam has instilled in her a desire to continue social service work in Japan. Perhaps she will pass on some of the diverse San Francisco culture she was able to enjoy at Good Samaritan Family Resource Center. “I really appreciate everyone’s kindness. Thank you.”
