Good Samaritan understands that teaching children their ABC’s is not enough to prepare them to enter school. Our School Readiness Programs focus on preparing the whole family, ensuring that the child is physically and emotionally healthy from birth until the day they enter school. We work closely with parents by providing them with information and resources so that they can support their children’s healthy and successful development.

Horas Felices (Happy Hours): Horas Felices is a 10-week workshop series offered three times per year and is geared towards immigrant mothers with children ages 0-5, although women with children of all ages are welcome. Topics covered include nutrition, child development, education, self-esteem, parenting, domestic violence, family planning, immigration issues, and emotional health. A meal is provided at each session so that participants can eat, chat, and build networks of support with other women, thus breaking the isolation which many immigrant women face. There is no pre-registration required; participants may attend on a drop-in basis. Good Samaritan’s School Readiness Coordinator and Family Advocates are always present to answer questions and to refer individuals to additionally needed services.
Horas Felices is offered on Fridays from 11:00am-12:30pm.
